Progressive New Rules
Innovation is in our blood. Our vision is to enhance the beautiful game of American football to appeal to the British population.
We have converted the AMERICAN GAME to a British game by providing British style rules. Like all sports, American football needs to evolve and reach out to new audiences. We believe our unique combination of American Football and British appeal is a perfect way to adapt the sport.
And while we honour the traditions of the sport, it's no secret why American Football hasn't kicked off in the UK yet for grassroots. It is too complicated, requires too much equipment and too many players. Check out below how we are paving a new path.
NO HELMETS OR PADS
Who doesn't love a good old rugby tackle. Well that's the official tackle of London ball. Below the neck, snappy and hard hitting. We don't believe in helmets and pads to protect us because although they provide great entertainment in the NFL by allowing harder hits, the overall hassle, cost and concussion risk of helmets is far greater than the reward. Don't be fooled by the 'protection' of the helmets. When your head smashes to the ground with a helmet on, it still rattles your brain just as much as without helmets.
EIGHT A SIDE
We believe that in order to introduce American Football to the UK, we need to simplify the field. With 11 men on the field normally, there is way too much going on. Half the time you don't know where the ball is. We believe the offensive formation of 1 QB(Quarterback), 2 WR(Wide receiver), 1 TE(Tight end), 1 RB(Running back) and 3 OL(Offensive Linemen) combined with the defensive formation of 2 CB(Cornerbacks), 2 DL(Defensive linemen), 2 LB(Linebackers), and 2 S(Safety) is the perfect amount of players to properly play American Football whilst not being overwhelmed by too many players.
NO FIELD GOALS
There are no field goals in London ball to once again encourage entertaining and risky plays. You are still allowed to punt. The extra point options are a 1 point conversion which is a play made from 2yds away and a 2 point conversion made from 5 yards away. The points for a touchdown remains at 6 points.
